I was so saddened to hear of Katy's passing and my thoughts and prayers are with Marcia and all the family.
When I was a baby barrister I was co-defending with Katy and findings were made (which Katy had said would be made, but if made would be wrong), and she guided me painstakingly to appeal it, we won and got our costs. Without Katy it would have been a different outcome. She was generous to a fault. I was able to conversations with her that made all the difference to my career and Wellbeing.
Katy was a strong supporter of black and LGBT barristers at the Family Bar. Her support made a huge difference to us. She will be missed terribly. One of my fond memories is how she cut a dash in her suit at a FLBA dinner in Middle Temple. Katy had style, poise and a knowing smile.
Her legacy will continue, she was a do-er and had a strong sense of what was right. Her article during the BLM movement of June 2020 was spot on and a tribute to her dedication to human rights. https://www.coramchambers.co.uk/stay-alert-it-might-just-work-after-all-a-personal-reflection-on-racism-and-policing/
